Eight years after the release of «The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2», Jena Malone found the courage to tell that she was the victim of sexual assault by a colleague on the set of the film (the third of science fiction saga based on the novels of Suzanne Collins). The revelation came with a long post on Instagram, accompanying a photo taken at the end of filming, where the 38-year-old actress is immortalized in a sunny wheat field.

«This photo was taken immediately after finishing “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2” and I had to say goodbye to everyone on set – writes Malone in fact -. We were shooting at a beautiful estate in the French countryside and I asked the driver to let me out into this field, so I could cry and capture this moment. The time I spent in Paris was very difficult for me, I was going through a bad breakup and was sexually assaulted by someone I had worked with, I was so full of gratitude for this project, the people I became friends with and this amazing part that I got to play. A swirling mix of emotions that I’m only learning to manage now. I wish it wasn’t related to such a traumatic event for me, but I guess that’s the true wild nature of life.”

In her confession, the actress admits that she had to work a lot on herself to be able to overcome that dramatic experience. “I have worked very hard to heal and learn, through restorative justice, how to make peace with the person who has violated me and especially how to make peace with myself. It was hard to talk about Johanna Mason and The Hunger Games without feeling the clarity of this moment in time, but I’m ready to face it and reclaim the joy and fulfillment I felt,” Malone continues, before concluding her outburst with an appeal .
