Mathias Pogba, brother of Paul, the Juventus midfielder, was released from prison. The French newspaper reports it Le Parisien. He had been detained since 17 September at the pre-trial detention center of Villepinte (Seine-Saint-Denis), as part of the investigation into attempted extortion by an organized gang, of which Pogba claims to be a victim. The release is accompanied by a ban on removal from the territory and a ban on contacting his mother and brother Paul, as well as the protagonists of the case. These are the other four arrested who thus remain in the cell.

Mathias would not be involved in the kidnapping of his brother, but only in the dissemination of a subsequent video that revealed the story of the kidnapping. And that according to the investigators was part of the pressure to push his brother to pay. A judicial proceeding, to be remembered, had been initiated by the Turin prosecutor’s office.

The Juventus midfielder had gone to Lagny-sur-Marne at the end of March to visit his family. Here he had been kidnapped by some friends in an apartment, in which he had also found two hooded men armed with assault rifles: the gang’s request had been for 13 million euros, as payment for the protection services rendered to the player since he was 13 years old. Paul had paid 100 thousand euros. And he then explained to the investigators that he had also met the blackmailers in April in Manchester and in July outside the Juve training centre: here Pogba said he recognized Mathias, who with the other members of the gang accused his brother of never having him financially helped.

Until March, Paul and the twins Mathias and Florentin, three years older, seemed united: the younger brother born in France, while they were born in Guinea and wore the shirt of the African national team. In terms of football, there is no comparison: Florentin ended up in India, Mathias without a team. This story shook French football (and not only) a few weeks before the start of the World Cup in Qatar and was brought to light with the publication, on August 27, of an enigmatic video by Mathias Pogba, who had promised burning revelations about his brother , to then turn around and deny being involved in this dark affair. The Octopus’s brother had presented a request for release which was accepted just before Christmas, after the previous denials.
