Giro d’Italia, triumph of Roglic. Cavendish wins the final sprint in Rome. Mattarella’s applause

ROME – An author’s signature on the last Roman stage of the Giro. Under the eyes of President Mattarella it is Mark Cavendish who scores the paw on via dei Fori Imperiali. A few moments after the winning sprint of the former world champion, Primoz Roglic was able to raise his arms in the pink jersey. A single, very vague thrill for the Slovenian when at -7 Geraint Thomas put his Ineos in front. No attempt obviously for the Welshman, but Roglic, who precedes him in the standings by only 14″, preferred to get behind his wheel. A sunny day, a great show from the public and no hitches, like instead 5 years ago, when in Rome the the stage was shortened due to the potholes.
