Giro d’Italia, the eighth stage: the route and where to see it on TV

Terni – There Terni-Fossombrone (207 km) is the classic pitfall stage. Complicated, nervous, full of pulls, raises, on narrow and complicated roads, it will be a real rodeo and the weather could make it even more insidious and a real test for the men in the standings, who have everything to lose on a day like this.

The stage will start immediately uphill facing the first 11 km after the start from Terni The Pass from the Sum, ascent not valid as gpm on which the escape of the day will be developed. Proceed up to Passo della Scheggia. Having therefore passed the halfway point and entered the Marche region, the runners will find themselves faced with a slight descent of about 38 km which leads to the foot of the first real climb of the day, the strappo dei Cappuccini.

Only 2800 meters long and with an average gradient of 7.9%, this climb will present an initial stretch of around 4%, but the last 1600 meters will be constantly in double figures, with a maximum peak that will touch 19%. After the brow, there will be a first passage on the finish line in Fossombrone, immediately after which the ascent of Monte delle Cesane will begin (7.8 km at 6.5%), a decidedly irregular climb that will propose a very demanding ramp in the first part (with gradients of up to 18%) and continuous ups and downs in the last 5000 metres.

About 36 km will remain from the summit, a dozen of which will be a descent that will lead to the foot of the short wall of Montefelcino (still over 10%), followed by a stretch of plain that will take the runners back towards Fossombrone. The tear of I Cappuccini will be tackled a second time, which could represent a perfect springboard given that it will be downhill just 5900 meters from the finish.
