The video will be at the center of the exhibition 1923-2023, the Centenary of the Genoa Tournament in South America

Unpublished, beautiful images of Genoa’s South American tour in 1923. A unique film, which allows you to review moments of the matches played by the rossobl against the national selections of Uruguay and Argentina: the goals, the entry into the field, or even when the Italian team brought a wreath to the mausoleum of Gen. Artigas.

Kept for decades by Sara Tentori, who had inherited it from her grandfather, the film was delivered in August 2022 to Home Movies – National Family Film Archive of Bologna, which has been involved in the recovery and restoration of the films for twenty years of 900 private amateurs. The restoration in the Archive laboratory was made possible thanks to the support of the Genoa 1893 ETS Foundation. Today at the press conference in Genoa the video will be presented, e will be at the center of the exhibition 1923-2023, the Centenary of the Tourne of Genoa in South America promoted by the Foundation, scheduled at the headquarters of the Genoa Museum (Palazzina San Giobatta, via al Porto Antico 4, Genoa) from 24 June to 26 November 2023 to celebrate the anniversary. And that’s not all: the film will soon also be visible in the Sport section of the MEI – National Museum of Italian Emigration, created to tell how the theme of sport plays a central role in the life of emigrants.

There were many Ligurians in Argentina and Uruguay in 1923 (among the emigrants also the founders of Boca Juniors and River Plate). Happy to be able to see their team, champions of Italy that season, and left immediately after the end of the championship on an ocean liner from Genoa to land in Latin America. Genoa was welcomed by wings of people celebrating. Seven years later, in 1930, the first World Cup was organised. Uruguay will host him and win the Rimet Cup.
