TERNI. Filippo Ganna has Covid and abandons the Giro d’Italia. No eighth stage for him, the Terni-Fossombrone, in Umbria. His team, the Ineos Grenadiers, says so: «After showing mild flu-like symptoms, Filippo has to leave the Giro. Ganna will now rest and make a full recovery before resuming his racing schedule for the 2023 season.”
A stroke of bad luck for the blue that tomorrow in the 30 km time trial with arrival in Cesena would have been the favourite. Filippo wanted revenge from Evenepoel who, in the opening time trial on the beautiful Costa dei Trabocchi in Abruzzo, had given him 22 seconds.
