ROME – The title of the exhibition is “Out of the world” and collects close-up shots taken by Marco Palombi’s camera to tell stories of fleeing peoples, forced to leave everything, often without too much warning, due to the outbreak of wars, or because hunger bites and leaves no choice but to go and look for food elsewhere, at the cost of desperate and dangerous journeys, perhaps ending up in the hands of traffickers who even enslave children. Or again for the drought, which is devastating many parts of our planet, sterilizing land and crops, killing millions of animals useful for the food independence of entire populations. But people also flee due to natural disasters, from the eruption of volcanoes to earthquakes and tidal waves.

Fading cultures. In short, entire pieces of humanity destined to dissolve, spreading throughout the rest of the world, which are effectively forced to renounce their customs, or to have to reconsider, shape (at best) respect for their traditions, their culture of belonging, mixing – often at the cost of great sacrifices – in the cultures of host peoples, more or less happy to welcome them. The exhibition, which exhibits large-format images, also includes a series of small and medium-sized photos, which testify to ethnic groups that are believed to be in the process of disappearing definitively.

Who is the author of the photos. Marco Palombi, freelance photo-video reporter, has published numerous reports from all over the world for Repubblica, La Stampa and other numerous national and international newspapers. Since the 1990s, he has traveled to all continents to collect images of nomadic populations and ethnic minorities. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue/artist’s folder in a limited edition of 50 copies.
