After the arrival on the seafront of this year’s stage, the Giro d’Italia confirms its renewed love for Naples and returns to the city also for 2023 with the Naples-Naples stage, the sixth of the Giro, scheduled for 11 May. The organizers made it known. Cyclists will not only engage in the wonders of Partenope: the path in which the stage winds its way, leaving the city, will cross the internal area of ​​Vesuvius up to Pompeii and its archaeological area, then climb the Valico di Chiunzi to glide over Ravello and Amalfi to then reach Positano, Sorrento and go up the Sorrento peninsula and the Vesuvian coastal strip to reach Naples againwhere the riders will compete for victory.


The stop, wanted by the Metropolitan City of Naples also for 2023 to promote the extraordinary landscape and cultural heritage, will therefore touch some of the most beautiful places in the world, such as Naples, Vesuvius, Pompeii, the wonders of the two coasts, Amalfi and Sorrento, the Archaeological Park of Herculaneum and the Royal Palace of Portici, the Golden Mile. At the presentation ceremony of the Giro, at the Giorgio Gaber Opera House in Milan, the Metropolitan City of Naples was represented by the Deputy Mayor, Giuseppe Cirillo. Also present was Giuseppe Tito, mayor of Meta and Metropolitan Councilor delegated to the sea, the Coasts and Monte Faito. I am very happy that RCS has accepted the proposal of the Metropolitan City, and we do not exclude – announced Deputy Mayor Cirillo on the sidelines of the presentation – to repeat this action in the near future for still different areas of the metropolitan area.

The departure and arrival of the stage have not yet been formalized, but a replica of Piazza Plebiscito for the start and Lungomare for the finish is possible. The Giro will arrive in Naples for the 46th time, as the third city after Milan and Rome. The Napoli – Napoli 2023 will be one of those that the organizers define `moved, nervous stages: not for climbers, but not just for sprinters. A short stage, of about 160 km but intense. Two flying goals, in Pompeii and Castellammare, two mountain grand prix, one on the Chiunzi Pass, at 48 / o kilometer and an altitude of 683 meters, and one at km 95, at Capo di Mondo, at 469 meters – with a view of the Sorrento and Amalfi coasts, from which you will descend towards Sorrento for the last 50 km, all flat, which will lead to the finish in Naples. The Giro has foreseen two other stages in Campania. One with arrival in Laceno and one with finish in Salerno. In the meantime, today Naples in the presentation of the Giro 2023 was awarded among the 2022 stages for separate waste collection. As part of the Giro’s social responsibility project, Naples ranks third among the arrival stages, with 87% of RD, differentiated waste, behind Scalea (91%) and Cuneo (87.1%), from which only 0.1% separates it. The award was received by the Deputy Mayor Cirillo.

Even Salerno, in the meantime, celebrates the arrival of the pink Caravan in 2023. Thanks to the organizers of the Giro d’Italia and the Campania Region who have made it possible to include Salerno among the stages of the most loved cycling competition by Italians.
