“We thought for a long time how we could express our closeness to the issues of environmental and social sustainability. We too felt the responsibility of launching, with music, a message to help the world become a more respectful place for the environment and peace, and thus the project was born We are the time. And it was the best way.” Manuela Marussi is an opera singer (mezzo-soprano) awarded the order of Cavaliere della Repubblica for her artistic merits. She is one of the founders of the cultural association InCanto of Capriva del Friuli in the province of Gorizia, of which she is also the artistic director. With the Freevoices Show Choir (named after a song by Abba), 35 girls and boys aged 18 to 28 created a show inspired by the UN Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.

mmusicians and singers, sopranos and mezzo-sopranos, contraltos, tenors, basses who share the pleasure of being together on stage, but also in life. A show of music, voices and stage action, written by Sergio Sichenze (author of several collections of short stories and poems) with choreography by Mark Rigamonti.

It is Manuela Marussi who explains how they managed to bring the public to the stage and involve them on issues dedicated to the health of the Earth. How did they manage to put together commitment and art. A work in which he also collaborated Gianni Del Zottoformer director of the music institute of Gorizia.

We are responsible for the time of the Earth

“We have created a series of musical pictures with written lyrics, each dedicated to a specific theme: the sea, the relationship between man and nature, hospitality. Reflections to explain why we are responsible not only for our time, but also for that of others and the Earth As culture assumes ever greater social responsibility, all other forms of art have a specific task: to raise awareness in communities and open up the consciences – explains Marussi – The artists who participate today in the debate on the theme of sustainability are called to create revolutionary works capable of sending powerful messages about climate change, politics and social injustice in this context that the Freevoices Show Choir proposes the show that underlines the principle: We are the time”.

“Joy for music and love for the Earth give us the energy for our show – say the young musicians – We bet on the fact that both can be contagious. Thus our message for the environment will become more powerful”.

The collaboration with Ovadia and Caposela

The show, full of energy and intensity, has already been presented at Gorizia, Trieste it’s at Cividale del Friuli. In the coming months there are already many appointments on the calendar. “There is a great demand from summer festivals and in schools in the autumn” says the director. All the boys have a great passion for music, dancing and singing. They have performed on the stages of important theaters throughout Italy with two important collaborations: the one with Moni Ovadia and participation in a concert by Vinicio Capossela who wanted them with him on stage at Villa Manin in Passariano. In addition to a tour in 2019 in Argentina.
