Perez, Verstappen, Leclerc the podium on Sunday. Perez, Leclerc and Verstappen that of Saturday. No victory, but two podiums for Leclerc’s redhead. Sainz’s recovery is more opaque: he is there, but fifth, like yesterday.

Not a little, indeed, much better for the pupil of the Principality: after the first three races of 2023 in a “tunnel”, the fourth weekend of Formula 1 for Ferrari sees a significant change of pace. We started well from Friday: in the context of the new format which, in the presence of Sprint races, provides for the official qualifications one day in advance, after the free practice, seeing the Monegasque ahead of the world champion by almost two tenths had made us think well.

Perez shows all the potential of Red Bull

A tenth and a half confirmed also in the new mini-qualifying shootouts on Saturday, with Leclerc therefore double poleman in Azerbaijan. Known ‘qualifier’, with a car that was finally in order, Charles did the best of what he often does very well, the flying lap. In the Sprint race, however, pace was not enough to win. With Verstappen heavily penalized by an impact with a too aggressive Russell at the start, the rival was not the usual: Perez had the upper hand and showed all of Red Bull’s potential.

An auspicious result, which served to keep his morale up even today. Although he started from the second row, he even managed to win the ‘real’ Sunday grand prix with two simple moves. Leclerc, due to Drs (many could accuse him after the overtaking suffered in the long straight without any possibility of reaction), was first overtaken first by Verstappen on the fourth lap and then by Perez on the second.

But not even five laps later, the young De Vries went into the wall, necessitating a safety car. A situation not taken well into consideration by the Red Bull wall, which called Verstappen ahead of time, leaving the leadership to Perez who, like others, then took advantage of the thing, exiting the pitlane in front of the former leader with fresh hard tyres.
