It is a record-breaking Italy seen at the Metro Arena in Espoo (Finland), where the European Figure Skating Championships were held. In fact, dance brought the fourth Italian medal in the event: Charléne Guignard and Marco Fabbri (Fiamme Azzurre) excelled at the end of the two programs (rhythmic and free today), totaling 210.44 points. Silver to the British Lilah Fear – Lewis Gibson (207.89) and bronze to the Finns Juulia Turkkila – Matthias Versluis (198.21).

Guignard/Fabbri, in addition to claiming the third continental medal of their career (the first gold after the bronze medals in 2019 and 2022), become the third Italian dance couple to become European Champions after Barbara Fusar-Poli/Maurizio Margaglio in Bratislava 2001 and Anna Cappellini/Luca Lanotte in Budapest 2014.

European figure skating championships, historic double for Italy

“This result is the work of a lifetime, a dream that has come true but so much passion. We will celebrate with our families but this gold is worth our holiday in Lapland”, commented the new European champions. “It wasn’t a perfect performance – admitted the two blues -. There were some small mistakes and in the end we thought it would be enough. After the Rhythm dance we were very happy with what we had done, today not entirely but in the end that was enough”.
