Federica Cappelletti, Paolo Rossi’s widow, takes the field for the position of president of the new professional women’s division. Perugina by birth, professional journalist, Cappelletti president of the Foundation which since last September bears her husband’s name.

Cappelletti confirmed this to Ansa: Yes, I have decided to dedicate myself to the promotion and development of women’s football in Italy, from a fully sustainable point of view.

Women’s football in Italy turned professional from 1 July 2022, with the announcement made shortly before, in April. The players have obtained the basic rights of workers: paid sick leave, accident protection, the right to retain their jobs after gaming accidents and maternity leave, pension contributions.

The Division, like the Lega Calcio, is directly responsible for organizing the competitions of Serie A, Serie B, the Primavera Championship, the Italian Cup and the Super Cup. The last elective assembly dates back to 2 September 2019, the next elections are set for 29 June. Most likely to challenge Cappelletti will be Ludovica Mantovani, current n.1 of the women’s division.
