Stefano Mei, 60 years old, is almost the same age as the European Cup born in 1965. Yet he had never won it even on an individual level, with only two participations as an athlete and the maximum of a third place in the 1,500m in 1985. In Chorzow, after coming close to winning by just 2 and a half points two years ago, he achieved the historic triumph in his first term as federal president: 24 points ahead of second-placed Poland and 16 podiums in 37 races with 7 individual victories!
