Although he lived in direct contact with the music of his city, from the Piedigrotte to the variety show, the poems of Eduardo De Filippo turn out to be demanding to set music, even more so if an artist from “outside the realm” who is also Milanese, such as Patrizia Cirulli who, despite his origins, did this on his new album, Fantasypublished by Imbalances. The results, however, are “excellent both on a creative and interpretative level, placing themselves in a balanced way between admiration and detachment, close relationship with this poetic tradition and expressive autonomy”: to say it is the composer and musicologist Pasquale Scialòauthor of studies of fundamental importance on the Neapolitan song, rejoicing in his arrival “in the Neapolitan sound universe with a contribution as demanding as it is successful, capable of putting into music and singing Eduardo’s looks, moods and gestures”.

Accompanying the Lombard composer and songwriter, in this immersion in the atmospheres and sounds of the “singing city” par excellence, two highly prestigious voices that close, as in an ideal embrace, several generations of Neapolitan artists: Fausta Vetereof the New Company of Popular SingingAnd Dario Sansoneof the Foja.

Brilliantly supporting their voices is a chamber ensemble that mixes ancient and contemporary with guitar, lute, mandoloncello, violin, viola, double bass and percussion: an ensemble that, made up of excellent soloists united by great elective affinities, give the work such a balance to allow Cirulli’s music to vary between different genres, from folk to songwriting.

A project of great artistic importance, meticulously prepared over the years, with the full approval of Luca De Filippo and then of the other heirs of the great playwright, who now sees the light with the paintings of Beppe Stasi: a heartfelt and participatory tribute to one of the highest expressions of national culture.

Songwriter and composer, three times finalist at Tenco Award and three times winner of the Lunezia Award, Patrizia Cirulli he had already faced the universe of great poetry, transposing into music texts by numerous authors, from Catullus to Baudelaire, including a text by Eduardo at the origin of this new project entirely dedicated to his poetic world.
