After almost a month’s break – the last GP was in Australia on 2 April – Formula 1 is back. On the weekend of 28-29-30 April there will be a race in Azerbaijan, in Baku. The race scheduled for Sunday 30 April from 1pm on Sky Sport F1Sky Sport Uno, Sky Sport 4K and in streaming on Now (delayed free-to-air, on Tv8, from 6pm).

New format for qualifying, with two sessions scheduled
: will be applied to all weekends in which a Sprint Race will take place. Only the last step was missing in the F1 Commission, the novelty was approved a few days ago. So in addition to Azerbaijan we will see Austria (July 2), Spa (July 29) Losail (October 7) Austin (October 21) Interlagos (November 4). F1’s goal is to increase the show by reducing free practice to the bare minimum. So on Friday 28 April at 11.30 the free sessions will take place, the only one-hour shift of the weekend. The only opportunity for the teams to fine-tune the cars. It is essential to arrive ready. Instead, Saturday 29 will be all Sprint. Instead of the morning practice session there will be qualifying for the Sprint race. They are called Shootout, they adopt the same format as the traditional ones, but they will be shorter: three sessions (Q1, Q2 and Q3). The first will be 12′, the second 10′ and the third 8′. In Q3 it is expected that the drivers will have only one attempt at their disposal. It will be mandatory for everyone to use the medium tires (in Q1 and Q2) and the softs in Q3. In short, an important novelty.

All teams will have to adapt, even if there is concern about costs. Ferrari seeks redemption after the latest disappointments, while Max Verstappen (Red Bull) wants to repeat the success achieved in Australia on April 2, finishing ahead of Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) and Fernando Alonso (Aston Martin). As mentioned, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in Baku have to turn their season around.
