European fencing, Italy is already super: triumph in women’s foil and men’s epee

Start with a bang for Italy ai Plovdiv European Fencing Championships, Bulgaria. After the first two individual competitions, the Azzurri won six medals. Entirely monopolized women’s foil: gold for Martina Batiniwho benefited from the withdrawal of her compatriot in the final Martina Favaretto, silver, due to injury. Bronze (there is no third place final) to two other Italians, Francesca Palumbo and Alice Volpi.

In the two historic Italian semi-finals Batini got the better of Palumbo with a score of 15-12 while Favaretto, despite some hints of cramp in the last few hits, barred Volpi’s way 15-9. In the end the most precious metal went to Batini who, with a score of 9-6 in his favor, was able to benefit from Favaretto’s withdrawal due to the physical problem revealed in the previous match.

Men’s sword, Italy gold and silver

The Roman David DiVeroli he was crowned European champion in men’s epee. On the platforms of Plovdiv, the blue defeated the Frederick Vismara at the last jab for 15-14. Bronze for the Polish Mateusz Antkiewicz and the German Marco Brinkmann.
