European Fencing Championships: Macchi gold in foil, Italy first in the medal table

Italian fencing closes the Individual European Championships in Plovdiv with three more medals, bringing the total to 10. Philip Macchi triumphs in the men’s foil, Guillaume Bianchi finishes in third place in the same competition, while Martina Criscio takes the lowest step of the podium in the women’s saber.

After beating Bianchi in the semifinal derby, the 22-year-old from Pisa Filippo Macchi won the gold in the foil by beating the French Enzo Lefort with the score of 15-14, with a comeback from 11-14. Italy closes the event, which had only individual finals, in first place in the medal table with 3 overall gold medals. From 22 to 30 July the World Championships in Milan.
