Ethics and ring, champions teach boxing values

Increase the necessary skills in the ethical-sports field to operate in the social, community and grassroots sport sector, placing the protection of the athlete and the work team at the centre. This is the aim of the special national project “Ethics and Ring”, conceived and promoted by the Italian Boxing Federation together with its Social Partner Scholas Occurrentes (Pope Francis Foundation), approved by the Board of Directors of Sport e Salute SpA and admitted to contributions for the promotion and enhancement of basic sports activities pursuant to the Decree of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers of 7 July 2022.

A synergistic and concrete action towards cultural change that falls within the mission of Training, Development and Innovation, the branch of the National Boxing School, focused on socio-cultural activities, research and the promotion of boxing. The new container already includes projects such as Boxando s’Impara, Ethical Sport and Boxing For Change. First on the list Ethics and Ring which is coordinated by the FPI Ethics Commission and focused on free training courses, held in presence and through the FPI e-learning platform and intended for three clusters: FPI Executives (Federal Councillors, Presidents and Vice-Presidents of the Regional Committees ); Boxing operators (Regional Representatives, Sports-Technicians and Referees-Judges) and Young Life Champions (ex-athletes in difficulty and fragile young people, selected by the Social Partner FPI Sport Senza Frontiere).

The first course for Executives was launched and organized in Assisi at the Hotel Cenacolo, on Saturday 1 Sunday 2 April, in the two days of full immersion which introduced fundamental issues for the creation of innovative and structured formats to respond in an effective and integrated way to common problems.

The top management of FPI introduced the works: the Deputy Vice President Fabrizio Baldantonithe Honorary President and of the National Boxing School Franco Falcinellithe Secretary General Albert Tappa and the Director and founder of the School, as well as Federal Councilor Marco Consulati. Federal Councilor Sergio Rosa was also present.

Three assets/modules, Strategy, Organization and Development, which characterized this open dialogue on ethics, modulated on the educational proposal of Pope Francis, i.e. on the harmonious and integrated language between head, heart and hands, at the basis of the educational pact and integrated methodology illustrated by the Head of Scholas Occurrentes Mario DelVerme. Focus on sports companies and on the relationship between ethics and legality, from legal responsibilities with respect to the phenomena of Bullying, Cyberbullying and youth discomfort dealt with by the Project Leader Ethical Sport, Lawyer and Councilor of the ONBDG Giorgia Venerandito the phenomenon of hate speech and the code of ethical behavior illustrated by M° Rolando Grossi, Lawyer and Coordinator of the PRO FPI Sector. Ethics in practice: questions of value for risk assessment and management was the topic dealt with by dr. Matthew Baronti, Strategic Consultant and Coach, precious collector of all interventions. To orientate yourself in the profession of manager, sports technician and referee-judge on an ethical level, the psychology tools provided by the Boxing and Kick Boxing PRO Champion and Psychologist are essential Valeria Imbrogno. Deontology and code of ethics in the relationship between sports medicine and the world of boxing, with fundamental case histories, was the topic of Prof. Mario Ireneo Sturla, Co-Chairmen of the WBC World Medical Commission, President of the EBU European Medical Commission, Coordinator of the Health Sector and Head of the FPI National Studies and Research Commission. The Coordinator of the Special Projects Commission in the Scholastic Field M° Massimo Scioti. In boxing, the maximum expression of ethics is the relationship between Coach and Athlete, outlined by the Coordinator of the FPI Sports Technical Sector and Councilor M° Biagio Renato Zurlo.

The Ambassadors and Campionissimi closed the course Patrick OliveHead of National Blue Schoolboy, Francesco DamianiFederal Observer of youth teams, Robert Cammarelle, Emanuele Blandamura And Valeria Imbrogno who have brought their testimony of life and sport examples. “Without values ​​and without rules there is neither respect nor social coexistence” – Oliva underlined. And there is no work ethic without the intervention of the management, attentive to the needs and points for improvement that have emerged for the achievement of the “dream” goal shared by the entire boxing movement.
