Emission-free video and links: BBC unveils mobile office on bike

“I’m thrilled and proud that the project Anna Holligan and I have been passionately working on for years has finally come true. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!” Kate Vandy, a BBC journalist, announced the launch of the mobile office on two wheels on Twitter. The “BikeBureau” is in fact an eco-sustainable prototype that replaces the pickup truck for filming and broadcasting films on which TV journalists usually travel.

The BikeBureau not only cancels the emissions of normal road transport: the electric cargo bike is in fact equipped to satisfy all operations for TV or radio broadcasts using only solar energy. In practice, the journalists who have created it are able to independently create a service without connecting to the electricity grid or traditional batteries.

“One of the most gratifying things about the launch of our project – writes Anna Holligan on Twitter – is seeing how much interest and how much enthusiasm the BikeBureau is arousing in people”. Holligan is correspondent from Holland, one of the European countries where the use of bicycles is more widespread and the cycle paths are better equipped. The two journalists have also created a social account dedicated to the project, in which they describe themselves as “Simply two journalists who build a mobile studio on two wheels that changes the way news is produced”. “We also hope – says the report aired this morning on BBCNews – that the Bike Bureau can help the BBC become the greenest publishing company in the world”.
