Earth Day celebrations kick off: over 600 events scheduled

Beyond 600 events including educational workshops, sports activities, concerts, street art, talk shows and dozens of activities dedicated to the environment, innovation, culture and sport. These are the initiatives scheduled for Earth Day 2023, the 53rd World Earth Daythe most important environmental event of the United Nations which is celebrated on 22 April all over the world with over a billion citizens involved through the work of 75,000 organizations in 193 countries.

The program was presented at the headquarters of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Rome. Dozens of events scheduled, in different areas of the country, which Earth Day Italia has been sponsoring and promoting for years. The Italian event, organized by Earth Day Italia and the Focolare Movement, was defined by the Earth Day Network of Washington as one of the most important global events for the protection of the planet and the development of a strong ecological awareness.

For the first time, the official Earth Day celebrations will take place both in presence, with the Village for the Earth of Villa Borghese in Romeopened in 2016 by Pope francescoand with that of Turin, in its first edition, both in digital form, with #onepeopleoneplanet, The Multimedia Marathon, 16 hours of live content from Fuksas’ Cloud broadcast live on RaiPlay and delayed on VaticanNews.Va. The heart of the village are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of theUnited Nations Agenda 2030, explored through 17 multimedia squares led by young university students from various universities, all coordinated by the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart. Every day on the stage set up on the Pincio terrace there will be a dense program of talk shows led by television and print journalists and, at the same time, internationally renowned street artists will perform live and create works on the environmental theme.

The village is animated by numerous activities including: the Biodiversity Park of the Carabinieri Forestali; the sports village with over 30 sports organized by federations, associations and sports groups, Science Village with Esa, Cnr, Inaf, Crea, Ispra, Ingv, Enea, Arpa. All the activities in the village can be used for free.

Thanks to the precious contribution of the mercies the Village for the Earth it will be even more accessible, inclusive and safe for all visitors. Schools of all levels, coming from all over Italy with thousands of students, will have the opportunity to actively take part in the celebrations. For the little ones a fantastic has been prepared Children’s Village, in collaboration with Unicef, and numerous other associations, full of fun workshops among which we cannot fail to mention: the Pompieropoli of the Fire Brigade, the inflatable planetarium of the Inaf, the spectacular climbing wall offered by the National Educational Sports Center ( Csen, the largest sports promotion body recognized by Coni) and the biodiversity trails set up by the Carabinieri Forestali, where you will witness the baptism of the saddle with the Monterufoli horses every day. To animate the Children’s Village there will be the character of Spongebob, the most loved yellow sponge and protagonist of the homonymous TV series set in Bikini Bottom, a town on the bottom of the ocean, broadcast on Nickelodeon channels, the Paramount brand for children and Boys. Spongebob has always been linked to the protection of the oceans, recycling and sustainability and thanks to her universal language he is able to communicate to all age groups.

The Ecogive app – among the new features is also the ecogive app of the ‘new ways for a united world’ association which teaches how to take care of the planet and communities injured by climate change. While for the underwater world, ‘Mare vivo’ will let you discover the animal and vegetable curiosities that live underwater. The involvement of schools from all over Italy is included in the framework of the Sustainability Education Festival, conceived and created in 2016 by the organizers together with the Ministry of Education, and animated by the contest #iocitengo aimed at enhancing the students’ commitment on sustainability issues with the aim of highlighting projects, artistic works and reports in line with the 2030 Agenda from the nations of the world.

Now in its fourth edition, the multimedia marathon #onepeopleoneplanet (#opop) will be produced by Nuvola by Fuksas – an architectural jewel of international prestige in the Eur district of Rome – made available to the event by the Environment Department of Rome Capital.
