Doping, Kenyan Kipruto, world record holder of 10 km, suspended

The Kenyan Rhonex Kiprutothe world bronze medalist in the 10,000m in 2019 and world record holder in the 10km road race, has been provisionally suspended for doping, announced theAthletics Integrity Unit (Help). Kipruto was suspended for “use of a prohibited substance or method” based on anomalies found in his biological passport.

At 23, Rhonex Kipruto is already a star in Kenyan athletics: he won bronze in the 10,000 meters at the World Cup Of Doha in 2019, before becoming holder of the world record in the 10 km road race (26’24”) in 2020 y Valencia. He then finished ninth in the 10,000 meters all’Tokyo Olympics.

In recent years, cases of doping among middle distance runners are increasingly frequent Kenya. The AIU, an independent body responsible in particular for tests and investigations since 2017, denounced the large-scale presence of doping in the African country in April.
