Davide Calabria, AC Milan captain, was among the first signatories of the “Captains for the climate” petition with Matteo Pessina, Domenico Berardi and Alex Del Piero. A petition that moved the world of football so much that the president of the Serie A League Lorenzo Casini told La Repubblica that on April 22 World Earth Day the team captains will take the field with the climate band.

Will she also wear the climate band?
“I am proud to wear the armband of a great club like Milan. I live my commitment responsibly and with the same values, I will wear the armband for the planet. I believe that the Lega’s initiative should only be the first step in making everyone aware of the issues of environmental protection, but there is so much to do we are far behind”.

Matteo Pessina: “Football can save the climate too. Fans, fight with us”

How do you try to reduce your environmental impact? Are there daily and sustainable gestures that you do as an athlete and captain to set an example for the youngest too and what can other athletes do too?
“As I hope all of us do, I try to be careful at home with small daily gestures: I simply turn off the tap water when I brush my teeth, eat seasonal foods, try to reduce the use of plastic as much as possible and brands that share my same values. I also like to spread the values I believe in in schools, also together with institutions, brand partners or other athletes. I believe these are all concrete and recommendable actions”.

Was there a particular moment in which you felt the sensitivity and attention to the issue of safeguarding the planet snap within you?
“There wasn’t a precise moment because, in my small way and also thanks to my parents, I have always paid attention to the green world and the protection of the environment having grown up in an area where the land and the production of wine are the mistress. Certainly, however, in recent years my awareness has grown. The road is still very long, but with everyone’s commitment we can achieve the common goal of safeguarding the environment. I regret that we are one of the European nations furthest behind on these issues, we need to catch up quickly before it’s too late.”
