The American actor Danny Masterson, 47 years oldwas judged guilty of rape for two of the three counts that see him involved in a trial in Los Angeles. Masterson, best known for his role in the tv series «That ’70s show»has been accused of sexual assault by three women, all three former members of the Church of Scientology, of which he himself is a prominent member.

According to the indictment, just being a prominent member of Scientology it would allow him to shirk his responsibilities. As of December 2022 a previous jury had been unable to arrive at a verdict, but a second trial, with new evidence, has now led to this conclusion that Masterson faces 30 years in prison.

The actor, who had roles in films such as “Beethoven 2” and “Face Off”, until he achieved success with the American sitcom “That ’70s show”, was accused by several women in 2017, in full # MeToo, for violence dating back to 2001 and 2003. After three years of investigations, the trial started and in January 2021 he pleaded not guilty.

According to the indictment, Scientology would have helped cover up the violence (hypothesis firmly rejected by the organization): the victims said that it took them years to report it because Scientology would have dissuaded from contacting the policeobliging them to rely only on the “domestic justice system”
