ROME – Short and Hay, the first rural film festival. Always an independent and research festival, Short and Hay was born in 2010 from an idea ofWhite Asylum Association and is directed by Paola Fornara and Davide Vanotti. Now in its thirteenth edition, it is the only film festival in Italy entirely dedicated to the world of rurality, with screenings and meetings based on a kind of cinema that looks at the earth, its fruits and those who take care of it. In the agricultural world, the role of women is fundamental, as in the cinema that tells it: this year, in fact, half of the films on offer are signed by female directors.

The organizers explain. “Over the years cinema has been interpreted by our group as an ethical choice. We disclose the cultural work of those who choose daring and lonely paths, preserving the memory of fatigue and transmitting the concrete image of a planet to love: it is here and now that it is worth getting your hands dirty and fighting without easy expedients “. In addition to animating the villages and farmhouses of Lake Orta, the offer was expanded by projecting also in the historic Social Cinema of Omegna and during the year the collaborations with other Italian rural and urban areas were strengthened, from the Cascina Cuccagna of Milan to the Community of Valcamonica and Val d’Ossola.
