Towards the end of the nineties Tom Hanks and director Robert Zemeckis, who had already directed him in «Forrest Gump» (1994), returned to work together. The result is «Cast Away» (2000): the film, broadcast on Sky Cinema 2 at 16.40, tells the story of Chuck Noland, operational manager of the FedEx shipping company, who ends up on a desert island after escaping a plane crash and will try to survive there. For his interpretation of Hanks in 2001 he received a Golden Globe for best actor but not the Oscar (for which he was nominated): that year the statuette was won by Russell Crowe for “Gladiator”.
