CONI has chosen the “Pré Catelan”, the restaurant where Baron De Coubertin celebrated the acceptance of his idea in 1892 for the “Casa Italia” of the Paris 2024 Olympics
A tribute to Baron Pierre de Coubertin: CONI has chosen Pré Catelan as the location for Casa Italia for the Paris 2024 Olympics, the restaurant with chestnut trees and the wonderful terrace where the creator of the modern Games went to celebrate the acceptance of his idea presented at the Sorbonne, in 1892.
Giovanni Malagò at the presentation press conference in Paris explained the reasons for his choice: «There is a romantic story that links Pré Catelan with antiquity. In this place the intuition of Baron Pierre de Coubertin on the Olympic Games was celebrated, a brilliant, far-sighted idea, after all he was a dreamer». Pré Catelan was the favorite among several options: «I came to Paris several times to make site inspections, we saw various places but I immediately thought that Pré Catelan was not only the best place for Casa Italia, but “the” place».
The Italian ambassador in France, Emanuela D’Alessandro, added: “It is a historic occasion as for the first time in the history of CONI the signing takes place in the city that will host the Olympic Games”.
