Boxing, Usyk and Fury don't agree: skip the heavyweight world reunification

It was the most awaited meeting of the year, but it won’t take place. Skip the match scheduled for April 29 at Wembley the heavyweight world championship between Tyson Fury, WBC world champion, and Alexandre Usyk, holder of the WBA, WBO and IBF crowns. According to the BBC, the negotiation between the parties would have stalled on a rematch clause, against which Fury’s entourage would have expressed its opinion and which Usyk would have claimed as already happened for the match with Anthony Joshua. At the time the British boxer guaranteed himself a chance to take back the titles and Usyk wanted the same opportunity in case of defeat. It would be the most important heavyweight match since 1999, the last year in which the heavyweights had a single champion with Lennox Lewis.

Harsh comment to Sky Sports UK by the promoter of the Ukrainian boxer, Alexander Krassyuk. “I would like to underline that we had accepted the division of the purses 70-30 despite Usyk being the holder of three belts. Fury instead tried to avoid putting his title up for grabs with constant requests, putting up so many obstacles that we made us desist from further commitments. Everyone therefore goes his own way”. Usyk will now have to put the WBA crown up for grabs by facing official challenger Daniel Dubois.
