Boxing, La Femina in Belgium for the EU super bantamweight: "The away game doesn't scare me, I'll beat Eloyan"

The qualitative leap towards increasingly high-level boxing. Vincenzo La Femina (all won 12 matches, 6 before the limit) in his career has already conquered the Italian title, on Saturday evening at the Alfasun indoor arena in Roosdall. He will face the Belgian Geram Eloyan (9-4-0, 7 ko) for the European Union super bantamweight title.

Vincenzo, what are your sensations?
“They are excellent. I do what I love in life: the professional boxer. When you live like this you can’t stay with a weight inside, you always give your best”

Having known well in advance of this meeting, how did you deal with the athletic training?
“I’m always ready, I always train with or without a match. We certainly worked with a lot of volume, intensity, breath and strength to be ready for the twelve rounds”.

A preparation without leaving any stone unturned, on English soil.
“Being in England was a wonderful experience. The fact that the teacher wasn’t with me was even better because, despite being treated very well by everyone, I still had to demonstrate that I had the right attitude, the grit to be in a gym with people of the caliber of Josh Kelly, Mick Conlan, Eubank… I was there with my head for the war and I proved that I can stay there. Conlan was my idol when he was competing in the Olympics and making us gloves meant a lot. Conlan is scary, but I can be scary too, I understood this from the away match in England.”

Geram Eloyan is a fighter. Did he study it?
“He has heart, he certainly has heart in spades. He always comes forward, collects well, is tough, puts in loaded shots. I respect all opponents but I don’t think I have to fear anything in particular from Eloyan.”

How does it feel to compete for an international belt, away in Belgium? Do you think you have to dominate to win the match?
“I think we boxers have to prove more and more. In this case I’m fighting away, it’s true, against the reigning champion. But I’m convinced of my strength, otherwise I wouldn’t have accepted the match. There will also be fans who will support me: there is a twinning on the Pagani-La Louvière axis… we’ll see in the stands. Anyway, I intend to become a champion and to do that I have to go through everything. Hostile climate, transfers, verdicts”.

What do you see in your future?
“Now I only see the belt of the European Union, then there’s so much more I want to conquer. But right now I think about what I have in front of me. I know there’s already so much more, there will be thanks to me, my agents, sponsors. But I have to beat Eloyan and that’s the goal.”

One opponent faced by Eloyan is Italian, Luca Rigoldi. Would you like an all-Italian derby?
“If there were to be a match with an interesting proposal, I would do it and I would beat it. I don’t know of any other solution”
