Boxing, De Carolis wins but doesn't shine. Rossetti remains champion after one battle

Boxing marathon at the Palafijlkam in Ostia. Non-trivial matches, many with uncertain outcome. John DeCarolisin the double role of boxer and organizer, suffered a lot against the Brazilian Douglas Ataide. It was supposed to be a test in view of the difficult European challenge in France against the puncher Kevin Sadjo. Instead the match turned into a great puzzle for the boxer from Lazio: Ataide, a career between ups and downs, in fact took away from De Carolis his favorite boxing – the middle distance one – putting him in difficulty with linear shots and thrown with good frequency. The former world champion rarely managed to find the key to the problem, so much so that in the end the verdict on points that rewarded him seemed very generous. It would be easy to speak of an alarm bell in view of the match with Sadjo, but paradoxically, despite the opponent’s certainly superior level compared to Ataide, De Carolis could encounter fewer difficulties precisely because of the type of boxing proposed by the European champion.

Rossetti wins after a battle

The best match of the evening was between Peter Rossetti and the French Yanis Mehah, at stake the European Union welterweight title. The Roman presented his very ‘American’ boxing, seamlessly but also without excluding risks. He attacked from the first to the last minute, also stimulated by the torrid climate in the stands: the supporters of Mehah, a boxer good at throw-in boxing, were also very noisy. Basically a perfect combination for a great show. First part for Rossetti, who in the seventh round seemed to have found the key to the match with a hook to the big target that knocked out Mehah.

Great return of the Frenchman in the second part of the meeting. Rossetti didn’t administer, exposing himself too much to the opponent’s blows. An uppercut in the eleventh round made him falter, his great character kept him on his feet but the risk was evident. The last round was splendid, with no tomorrow, in which the two gave everything. Divided jury, Rossetti confirmed with a split decision. In our opinion there was a point for the Roman boxer, a correct verdict in substance.

Faraoni, complicated return

Complicated return for Mattia Faraoni, who returned to boxing after two successful years in kickboxing. The former Italian light heavyweight champion beat the Brazilian Ventura in the points, but the rust in the distance from boxing – by his own admission – made itself felt.
