Between the bitterness of Sala and the anger of the clubs, San Siro is a disaster

The mayor expresses sadness because “no one wants the stadium anymore”, but after four years of bullshit, the reaction from Milan and Inter is minimal. And no, the “privatizing” companies didn’t win

Mayor Beppe Sala said he was “embittered” because “Nobody wants San Siro anymore” and added that he does not understand why anyone talks about “a lost battle for the mayor”. Understandable, but some clarification is needed. “Embittered” can certainly be, because a lot of effort had been spent on the possibility of finding a win-win solution for the new stadium that would save, if not the Meazza, at least public property. But cannot be embittered if after almost four years of a legitimate request Milan and Inter, having still not received an answer, have decided they have had enough of bureaucracy and a narrow-minded and ideological “civic” opposition. They are the ones who are embittered, and forced to look for other solutions. And if the “new San Siro” operation fails, it will also be a defeat for Sala. Because he had a logic, but above all because Sala could have closed a choice in the first term, rather than surrendering to the logic of a student assembly of the “public debate” and listening to “anyone has a tiramento”, as Mestrone sang, and then surrounding himself of a green-civic component that programmatically row against the project.
