Berrettini, return and tears. In Stuttgart defeated by Sonego

Matteo Berrettini returns to tennis but leaves the field and the Stuttgart tournament in tears. Lorenzo Sonego, who faced him and beat him 6-1, 6-2 says: “I’m not happy. I beat my best friend. I played imagining he wasn’t on the other side, I played my best tennis and now I hope Matteo recovers immediately, starting from the next opportunity”.

Berrettini has paid for the absence of many months off the field, and unfortunately he doesn’t have time available for Wimbledon where he now risks not even being seeded. Last year the former Wimbledon 2021 finalist won in Stuttgart, his sponsor’s tournament (Hugo Boss), and also lost 500 points in the standings, slipping to thirty-third position.

The match has never had history: Sonego, who in Rome had dedicated a thought to his friend after a victory, writing on the TV monitor at the end of the match: “Matte, we miss you”, and in Paris he confirmed that he was in good shape, he found himself at ease while Berrettini clearly showed a ‘rust’ that will have to be disposed of in a very short time.
