Alice D’Amato is the new European champion on the uneven bars. The only one on the podium of this specialty in the long federal history, the athlete and agent of the Fiamme Oro, after the bronze in Stettin in 2019, the second place in Munich in 2022, finally climbs on the top step in the continental event underway in Antalya, Turkey.

With 14,466 personnel, a cross between the 14,500 obtained in qualifying and the 14,400 of the all-around final, which finished yesterday with the bronze around her neck, the twenty-year-old Genoese from Brixia in Brescia leaves behind the British Rebecca Downie, second as in Stuttgart 2019 with 14.233 and the defending champion, the German Elisabeth Seitz 14.200. Still a bitter wooden medal, unfortunately, for Giorgia Villa who finished fourth again with 14.066, like last summer in Bavaria.

Alice has collected all three Turkish metals for now, also considering the team silver won last Wednesday. But the D’Amato family, and with it Italy in gymnastics, also celebrates Asia’s silver medal on vault.

On the run-up of the 25 meters, where, in Monaco she had injured her right ankle, eight months after the accident, the Ligurian twin confirms herself as the number two in the specialty. At the Olympiahalle she had only been beaten by the Hungarian Zsofia Kovacs – absent today from the final eight due to a slip from zero points in qualifying – at the Antalya Sports Hall instead she had to surrender to the French Coline Devillard, protagonist of two excellent performances and average important than 13,800. After the Yurchenko with a double twist worth 14,000 and the half taut flick (with which she hurt herself last year) worth 13,200, with three tenths of a penalty for landing off the trajectory, thanks to the average of 13,600, the blue policewoman is managed to beat the Belgian Lisa Vaelen, third with 13.583, who preceded her in qualifying. On the men’s front, another fourth place went to Air Force aviator Marco Lodadio, who with 14,666 arrived, stopping, just a hair’s breadth from the podium. On the castle, the idol of the house Adem Asil (14,933) prevails over the Armenian Vahagn Davtyan and the Greek Eleftherios Petrounias, both at an altitude of 14,733, but with the former prevailing for the best execution (8,733 against 8,433).

On the pommel horse Yumin Abbadini, trained by a specialist of the caliber of Alberto Busnari, is sixth with a staff of 14,166. Tomorrow second day of apparatus finals with Alice D’Amato returning to floor exercise and, together with Manila Esposito, beam, Matteo Levantesi on even parallels and agent Carlo Macchini with the best admission score on the barre.
