On the last day until the 75th minute Union Saint Gilloise were champions, until the 94th minute Genk and then in the sprint with a goal from Alderweireld Antwerp prevailed (and the exultant players broke the cup)

In Belgium everything happened on sunday. Antwerp won the championship in the last minute on the last daybut in I recover the title passed in the hands of three teams different. Then Alderweireld’s decisive goal in the 94th minute. In short, a thriller ending. And in the irrepressible enthusiasm of the players, it got involved the trophy. Broken in two.

Let’s summarize the facts: to celebrate the title was Antwerp. After a 66-year abstinence, he claimed his fifth championship ever. But the scenery on the last day was breathtaking with a series of crazy and unimaginable reversals.

In the final round there were three teams that could have won: in addition to Antwerp, also Genk and Royale Union SG
. But the latter after taking the lead, collapsed against Bruges even losing 3-1. But up until the 89th minute he was champion. Then, in the 75th minute, Genk took the lead (2-1 over Antwerp), becoming virtual champions thanks to a draw between Union and Bruges. And the, between the 88th and 100th minute of added time, Union conceded the three goals with the Genk fans who were already celebrating. But in the 94th minute the equalizer-scudetto goal arrived signed, as told by Alderweireld. Final ranking of the group: Antwerp 47, Genk and Royale 46.

The enthusiasm of the visiting players on the pitch and of the fans in the stands was incredible and during the celebrations the players smashed the cup and they had to celebrate by showing their fans the trophy reduced in two parts. But the joy remains. That’s indestructible at that moment. And who knows if Alderweireld, this time, will accept the statue that the fans already wanted to erect for him three years ago (for completely different reasons).
