“Dear mother”. Thus began a long post in which Andrew Howe celebrates the release of his mother, René Felton, from the clinic where she had been hospitalized for some time due to a stroke. The former blue, world vice-champion and Italian record holder (8.47) in the long jump, thus recounted the last few months on his social channels: “Finally today is a sunny day for us and the long-awaited news from the doctors has arrived . You are with us again, after months of anxieties and fears for what happened to you more than 3 months ago in Los Angeles. I still remember that night when I received the phone call from your friend, who warned me that you had suffered a stroke. At that moment my life stopped because I was in Italy and you were there alone, far from your loved ones”. And then: “So, in my heart, I promised myself that if I had come out unscathed from this situation I would have done two things that you care so much about: -Help you get back to dancing which is your passion and dedicate yourself to the last competition of my career to celebrate your recovery and thank you for all you have done for me and my brother. In addition to thanking you, dear mother, I would like to thank all the people who have given me their affection and encouragement over the years. I want to thank all the people who have been close to us particularly in difficult times”.

Howe’s retirement announcement: ‘I see the sun on the horizon’

Andrew Howe announced in the early days of 2023 his farewell to racing, at the age of 37, a decision that came after a career studded with injuries. “I’ve always been very demanding of myself, but at one point I felt like I never took the time to process everything I’d done. Like I’d never achieved my real goal, which was to win the Olympics. I see the sun on the horizon. I decided to expand and discover Andrew’s other qualities, as a personal trainer, training the little ones or why not, in the entertainment world”.
