Amateur soccer player in cardiac arrest, saved by defibrillator – Corriere.it

A 27-year-old footballer suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch during the Ribolla-Suvereto match of the second category championship, and was saved thanks to the defibrillator supplied to the stadium. The match was played today, Sunday 19 February, on the Scirea del Ribolla sports field, in the municipality of Roccastrada, in the province of Grosseto.

The player, after less than five minutes of the game, he suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed to the ground. To help him some managers and staff members of the two teams, as well as a nurse who was in the stands and took to the field to coordinate emergency operations. The use of the AED, the number of emergency services are decisive.

The use of the AED, the semi-automatic external defibrillator, is crucial, as well as the cardiac massage and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation maneuvers implemented by those who intervened. By the time the Pegasus ambulance arrived, the young man had already fully regained consciousness. Having thus averted the immediate danger to his life, the 27-year-old was transported by air ambulance to the Grosseto hospital.
