Food and drink prices have seen a general increase across the UK, where the overall inflation rate in grocery stores has reached 9%. And Wimbledon is no exception either. In fact, in the 2023 edition, a pint of beer costs 7.55 pounds (almost 9 euros), while last year – so to speak – 6.50 (or 7.50 euros) was enough. In detail of consumption, disclosed by the Daily Mail, the biggest increases concerned spirits, with canned wine, red or rosé, the 330 ml Stella Artois and ready-to-drink gin&tonic costing £9.70 each (11 ,30 EUR).

Even the classic bottle of still water is anything but cheap (£2.65, equal to around 3 euros) and the same goes for a 330ml Coca-Cola, which went from £2.10 last year to £2. 25 (which translated into euros means from 2.45 to 2.60), while for a glass of kombucha it costs 3 pounds (3.50 euros). Given the trend for drinks, it is not surprising that food has also seen a marked upward adjustment in prices. Seeing is believing the traditional strawberries with cream (the typical dessert of Wimbledon) which, despite being one of the cheapest items on the menu, are still offered at 2.50 pounds (which is equivalent to just under 3 euros).

The dishes of the British tradition are no less cheap: if a sandwich with sausage costs 4.80 pounds (5.60 euros), for a Cornish Pasty we are even 6.30 pounds (over 7 euros) and for a selection of small sandwiches at 4.55 (5.30 euros). Bad news for the wallet even for those who are satisfied with an ice cream, because they will have to shell out the beauty of 4.20 pounds (almost 5 euros), which is the same cost as a bag of sweets. Perhaps, at least the latter, it would be better to bring them from home….
