Seventeen blood transfusions to save her life. Alice Campello, wife of former Juventus player Alvaro Morata, retraces the dramatic moments during last month’s delivery. “Hospitalization was a nightmare. They intubated me for hours and when I woke up I understood everything”, tell Verissimo. “The doctors were able to stop the bleeding after hours. There was a fear that it would continue, in which case they would have removed my uterus, otherwise I would have died.”

Alice recalls that day with emotion: “The birth went very well. A cesarean, the best of the four births I’ve had. The problem came later, at a certain point I started feeling bad. I lifted the blanket and I saw a huge haemorrhage. Over time, the doctors didn’t know what to do anymore, and I was worried about Alvaro. He’s sick when I’m sick, and when I saw him, he turned white and passed out”.

Alice recounts her thoughts on her family: “It was difficult. I told the children that they would meet the little girl, but they didn’t see me coming back. No one explained to them but they understood. One of them was sleeping with my photo. Today I see every differently, Alvaro has come to think of what life would have been like without me. Today the children bring me flowers all the time, they ask me every three seconds if I’m okay. The sensitivity of children is incredible”.
