On the Central (which he finds after the 2021 final), in the afternoon, Matteo Berrettini faces the no. 1 of the world Carlos Alcaraz for a place in the quarterfinals

Matteo Berrettini’s big day against Carlos Alcaraz in the second round of Wimbledon. Today, Monday 10 July, the blue returns to Central (from around 5.40pm) for the first time since the final lost against Djokovic in 2021 and will try to stop the race for the number 1 in the world.

On the grass and in that field, for this Berrettini, everything is possible. And one cannot but think of the only Grand Slam match between the two: Australian Open 2022, third round, Berrettini’s victory at the fifth set tie break. It will be this big match that closes the program of the eighth day of Wimbledon on the Central.

The blue tries the coup after having already eliminated Lorenzo Sonego in an endless derby (6-7, 6-3, 7-6, 6-3), Alex de Minaur (6-3, 6-4, 6-4) and Alexander Zverev (6-3, 7-6, 7-6). The winner of the match between Berrettini and Alcaraz will find in the quarterfinals one between the Danish Holger Rune and the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, engaged in a generational clash in the third match on court 1 (from around 5.15pm).

On Wimbledon’s second most important venue, the day will open at 2 pm with another great challenge. The one between the Russian Daniil Medvedev and the Czech Juri Lehecka. Finally, the men’s draw program is completed by the match between the Greek Stefanos Tsistipas and the American Christopher Eubanks (from around 1.15pm). Also not to be forgotten, the continuation of the match between Novak Djokovic and the Pole Hubert Hurkacz. The Serbian leads two sets to zero: 7-6, 7-6.

For what concern women’s draw before the match between Berrettini and Alcaraz, two matches with protagonists are scheduled players who have won this tournament: from 14.30 Elena Rybakina (reigning champion) against Beatriz Haddad Mayafollowed by Petra Kvitova (queen of the Championships in 2011 and 2014) against Ons Jabeur. Two challenges that will meet in the quarter-finals and that will see strong and ambitious players at work. Also noteworthy is the match between Aryna Sabalenka — seeded number 2 — and Ekaterina Alexandrova (from around 4pm). The first match of the day will be Madison Keys against Mirra Andreeva, the 16-year-old Russian who is enchanting the world: appointment at 12 on court 2, before Tsitsipas-Eubanks. The live television entrusted to Sky Sport, which will follow Wimbledon 2023 through Sky Sport Summer (201), Sky Sport Arena (204) and Sky Sport Tennis (205). Wimbledon can be streamed on Now TV.
