Agrigento named Italian capital of culture 2025- Corriere.it

Agrigento was proclaimed Italian Capital of Culture 2025. The designation took place on March 31 at the Spadolini Room of the Ministry of Culture in Rome. The first words of Mayor Franco Miccich, present at the ceremony: Thank you all. The candidate cities for the 2025 edition were: Agrigento, Aosta, Assisi (Perugia), Asti, Bagnoregio (Viterbo), Monte Sant’Angelo (Foggia), Orvieto (Terni), Pescina (L’Aquila), Roccasecca (Frosinone) and Spoleto (Perugia). During the meeting Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano also announced that from next year next to the capital of the Book and the capital of Culture, there will be the capital of contemporary art. It will be nominated every year, we will make a triad, with the Italian capital of books and that of culture. The minister then added: Soon we will also have the Mediterranean capital, not on my proposal but on the European Union’s. As we have the European capital of culture, we will also have a Mediterranean capital between Italy, Greece, Spain, Cyprus, Malta. There will be one more possibility.

The Italian Capital of Culture 2025 will receive one million euros for the realization of the projectwith the aim of showcasing its original characteristics and the factors that determine its cultural development, understood as a growth engine for the entire community
