Addictions, five days not to die of gambling, the phenomenon that is upsetting social, health and economic balances

RAVENNA – The second edition of the series begins tomorrow, Tuesday 29 November, and continues until Saturday 3 December, at the Rasi Theater in Ravenna Not to die of gambling which, between theatre, cinema and insights, intends to shed light on the phenomenon that has been upsetting the social, health and economic balance of our country for years now. This second edition aims to deepen the theme using different registers through the contribution of Ser.D., ESC DeskPlayers Anonymous association, Ravenna Theater and company Mirroring souls, the Associations aps Pereira and Ravenna Cinema and the Municipality of Ravenna. During the days there will be in-depth meetings, testimonies of those who, in various capacities, deal with this problem and try to face it on a daily basis, even in its more dramatic aspects linked to addiction.

Tuesday 29 November

18:00 opening meeting with Stories of open matches, by the company Anime Specchianti and with Chiara Pracucci and Giordana Pasini.
What does it mean to play compulsively until completely lost?
The Anime Specchianti theater company gives voice to the real testimonies of recovering players.
These stories, interspersed with the insights of the psychologist Chiara Pracucci and the lawyer Giordana Pasini, specialized on these issues, will guide us to discover how much the encounter with compulsive gambling can affect the life not only of those who experience addiction firsthand, but of the whole society.
“And do you know a player? I thought not, then I opened my eyes and found myself away from me. I don’t know how it happened, but I was the player.”

21:00 Screening of the film “California Poker” by Robert Altman (original version with Italian subtitles) USA – 1974 – 108′

Robert Altman’s film, in addition to being a scathing and extravagant comedy about gambling, is also a journey into the nightmare of gambling pathology, made by one of the greatest directors in the history of cinema.

In collaboration with the Ravenna Anonymous Players Association.

Thursday 1st December

Playing is the most beautiful thing in the world, when you don’t get ruined! Afternoon of social games animated by the Circolo Arci Quintet to try board games, have fun and be in company.

21:00 Screening of the film “The Gambler” by Karel Reisz (original version with Italian subtitles) USA – 1974 -110′

The dramatic struggle of a teacher, masterfully played by James Caan, who fights against a gambling addiction. Inspired by Fyodor Dostoevsky’s short story “The Gambler”.

Friday 2nd December

This show takes the audience through the mechanisms that bind people to the game, while also launching a focus on opportunities to seek help and overcome addiction.
