ROME — A committee to support the Italian candidacy a Euro 2032 . This is what was announced by the Minister for Sport and Youth Andrea Abodi on the sidelines of the conference “The future of stadiums in Italy”, organized by Serie A League and which took place on Tuesday in the Coni Hall of Honor in Rome. The committee – said Abodi – will be set up this afternoon through a Dpcm already “formalized and closed” and will have the task of supporting the Italian candidacy for the 2032 European Championships. “It will be part of the dossier that the FIGC will present and which will be final choice”, specified the minister.

Gravina: “Euro 2032 an opportunity for new stadiums”

The president of the FIGC also spoke on the candidacy for Euro 2032, Gabriel Gravina connected remotely: “It is a great opportunity to take the step forward that many are hoping for”, he commented, adding that “organizing the European Championship in Italy would be an opportunity for the country for investments but above all for international credibility”.

Stadiums in Italy: here is the situation

Investments more necessary than ever, given the poor conditions in which Italian sports facilities are found. In this regard, Gravina himself pronounced vitriolic words: “In Italy we are light years away from other European countries in the process of evolution and growth of an asset such as stadiums, which is fundamental”. In support of his words, the FIGC president brought some numbers: “In the last 15 years, 187 new stadiums have been built in UEFA countries, as many as 29 in Poland and Turkey, while in Italy only 5. The incidence is 1% of total investment in Europe”. A merciless comparison, if we add that the average age of the plants in Italy is 68 years, while in Germany and England it is 38 and 35 years respectively, as pointed out during theMarco Casamonti author of the restyling of the “Dacia Arena” in Udine.

Abodi: “Modern stadiums only with Euro 2032”

Upgrading Italian stadiums is an urgent need. Precisely for this reason Abodi hopes that UEFA will allow the number of stadiums that would host the competition to be increased in our country, explaining, however, that “the inevitability of the Europeans having to change stadiums in Italy is mortifying”.
