Young Italians are very concerned about climate change, they are asking the government to do more, and to take decisions in favor of the 100% renewable objective. This is what emerges from the research promoted by the WWF and conducted by EMG Differenton the eve of global climate strike.

About 6 of the young people interviewed out of 10 declare that climate change has an impact on their lives (58% very or quite) and 56% say they are engaged in daily actions to address the climate crisis. About 8 out of 10 young people (77%) say they are very or somewhat concerned about climate change. For this reason, more than half of the sample is committed to making more sustainable consumption choices and 44% expect immediate intervention from the institutions.

Confirming the hope that the institutions take measures to tackle climate change, 6 out of 10 young people give a negative opinion on the work of the Government: for 63% of young people, in fact, our government is doing little or nothing to tackle climate change.

Clear the opinion of young Italians in favor of renewable energy sources as a response to both the climate and energy crises. 75% believe it desirable that all Italian energy is produced from renewable sources and 73% think that renewable energy sources are the solution to the energy crisis we are facing.

Youth and the climate crisis

How are young people responding to the climate crisis? Their reaction has two faces: the positive one of more sustainable consumption choices (energy, transport, food, etc.) for 53% and of request for immediate action (44%), but also the negative one of sense of helplessness (40%) and ofeco-anxiety (28%). It will be the task of the adults, and in particular of the institutions, to show a serious willingness to act and therefore help in a positive reaction from young people, with benefits for the country and society.

For young Italians, even companies are not doing enough to tackle the climate crisis. In fact, 61% of the interviewees believe that they are fueling the phenomenon while 39% believe that they are really helping to find solutions.

THEThe survey was carried out by EMG Different on a representative sample of the national population from 18 to 34 years old by gender, educational age and geographical area in the period between 23 and 27 February 2023.

The March 3 mobilization

The mobilization for the climate will return to the squares tomorrow 3rd March, promoted by the Fridays for Future, to draw attention to the emergency that politics is slow to manage. Even the young people of WWF Young will be in the streets to demonstrate united against climate change. We are in the midst of the crisis and the climate emergency and this strike serves to shake consciences and move the institutions to action before it is too late: WWF Young to young people from environmental associations including Greenpeace, I am alive And Legambienteproposed for tomorrow to carry out a common symbolic gesture, ‘The Voice of Nature’: the young volunteers will bring a white oak leaf in front of their faces which they will then wave.

The protest

Global climate strike on March 3. Fridays for Future: “Our anger is renewable energy”

The goal is to join the Fridays for Futureto other associations and ordinary people in a single voice that rises in the face of the increasingly pressing emergency of climate change and the loss of biodiversity that will condition the future of all of us, and push a government too reticent.
