The Classic Targa Florio is back, taking place as always in Sicily from 13 to 16 October. A fixed appointment that of the Targa, now every six months but which focuses on some questions about the estate of the Sicilian roads. The hope that a solution can be found on ordinary maintenance – explains Marco Rogano general manager of Aci Sport – because if the situation cannot be unblocked there is the risk that in the next few years it will not be possible to run in some stretches of the Madonie. I am referring above all to the Floriopoli-Caltavuturo section. The Grand Events Italian championship race will take place on the weekend of mid-October and brings with it an exclusive caravan made of stories in the heart of the island, touching the places of the strong automotive tradition with the highlight on the Madonie. There are about a hundred historic cars that will be protagonists on Sicilian roads, in addition to around 60 exclusive examples of Maranello’s supercars for the Ferrari tribute to Targa Florio.

The Targa Florio Classica still remains a traditional event that enhances the history of the oldest race in the world and the roads that have made it a legend – adds the mayor of Palermo, Roberto Lagalla -. Targa Florio is much more than a sporting event. an event of evident cultural interest, with a strong identity value, which managed to bring the Sicily brand around Italy and around the world. This one hundred and sixth edition will gather in Palermo thousands of enthusiasts who finally, after the years of the pandemic, will be able to fully enjoy one of the oldest and most famous car races, admiring fascinating historic racing cars. Our city needs initiatives like this. Events capable of expressing the value of our important artistic, historical and cultural heritage that is waiting to be relived through an appropriate process of enhancement. As mayor of Palermo and the Metropolitan City, I am honored and proud to be able to attend this new edition of the Targa Florio Classica.
The stages
The first stage on Friday 14 October will be from Palermo to Pergusa with return to Cerda at the Floriopoli stands. The day after the second stage will once again depart from Palermo towards the Madonie and with a special stage in Cefal. The third and final stage, Sunday 16 October, will be a regularity test (outside the general classification). This is the “Trofeo dei Cento Passi” with an iconic stage in Cinisi in memory of Peppino Impastato. The road traced is the one suggested by the mayor Roberto Lagalla: the Pnrr funds can revive the viability of the Madonie. This is a necessary intervention not only for the population that uses those roads every day, but also above all to give due credit to an iconic plate like the Targa Florio, a sporting event that the whole world envies us and on which Aci is working. to offer a great product.
