In the new issue, stories of rebirth in the museums and libraries of Romagna. Extra digital focus: fragments that become masterpieces

In the heart of Romagna wounded by the flood there are many stories of resilience and rebirth: just think of the Classis museum in Ravenna which opened its doors to displaced persons (and their animals); or to the frozen food companies in the area that have welcomed the ancient books of the Episcopal Seminary of Forlì, to save them by keeping them below freezing. In the new issue of «la Lettura», #601, on Saturday 3 June on the App and Sunday 4 on the newsstand, Stefano Bucci’s report shows and narrates the damage and recovery of museums, craft centres, libraries, house museums, and the efforts of an entire territory. And it is a journey into the fragments of art (from Cimabue’s Christ damaged in the Florence flood of 1966 to the heroes of Francesco Vezzoli and Igor Mitoraj) also the Theme of the Day, the digital-only daily extra of the App of «La Lettura », Sunday 4 by Bucci himself e first of a “triptych” dedicated to the “fragments” (an extra on literature and one on music will follow).

In addition to the Theme of the Day and the most recent number of the preview insert already on Saturdays, the «la Lettura» App for smartphones and tablets also offers the archive of all the issues released since 2011. Subscribing costs 3.99 euros per month or 39.99 per year, with one week free. The subscription can also be subscribed from the desktop starting from this page. For subscribers, the contents are also visible from PCs and Macs starting from their Profile page. Furthermore, a one-year subscription to the App can be given as a gift via the web from here or by purchasing a Gift Card in Librerie.coop.

Still on art, in issue #601, the in-depth analysis dedicated to Caravaggio, with the article by Arturo Carlo Quintavalle: taking the opportunity of three new essays dedicated to the artist, it offers an “radiography” of famous works and reveals unpublished aspects, illustrating the artist’s second thoughts, his techniques refined in the studio, the use of the convex mirror to make portraits.

Wide opening focus, sui big summer festivals. Their role for the dissemination of the arts and the challenge of addressing young people as well, are the topics of the conversation curated by Helmut Failoni between the managers of three of the major music festivals in Europe: Monique Veaute, artistic director of the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto; Markus Hinterhauser, superintendent and artistic director of the Salzburg Festival in Austria; Michael Haefliger, superintendent and artistic director of the Lucerne Festival. Among other reviews: the international festival of Edinburgh, of which Paola De Carolis writes; the Veronese Estate Theater in the sign of Falstaff anticipated by Maurizio Porro; the Venice Theater Biennale, with Laura Zangarini’s interview with director Boris Nikitin; the Ravenna Festival which returns despite the flood damage, as told by Valeria Crippa; the Campania Teatro Festival, as Emilia Costantini writes.

In addition to reviews and interviews, in the Books you can read the portrait of two authors who embody two centuries of French literature: the self-reinvention of the memoir of Édouard Louis (author of Method to become another, La nave di Teseo), about which Stefano Montefiori writes; and the twentieth-century acquaintances of the surrealist Pierre Minet (The defeat, Neri Pozza), on which Emanuele Trevi reflects. And Stephen King’s translator Luca Briasco tells about the master of horror in the essay The king of all (Salani), of which Antonella Lattanzi writes: in the section of the App dedicated to the Themes of the Day it is possible to read the incipit of the book.

At the end of the new issue of the supplement, a focus on the themes of pluralism, starting from the controversy around the Turin Motor Show, around Frankfurt 2024 and on the Rai appointments. The debate is entrusted to a “plural” number of voices, interviewed by Alessia Rastelli: Furio Colombo, Alessandro Giuli, Giordano Bruno Guerri, Flavia Perina, Walter Siti, Nadia Urbinati. He intervenes on the theme, and on the crisis of culture Ernesto Ferrero, interviewed by Cristina Taglietti. And the confrontation between, real or mythical, between right and left for “cultural hegemony” is dedicated Pietrangelo Buttafuoco and Gad Lerner, edited by Antonio Carioti.
