Carlos Alcaraz is back. He wins at Indian Wells and regains the world tennis throne. After missing the Australian Open, the 19-year-old Spaniard won the Masters 1000 in California, the first of 2023, beating the Russian Daniil Medvedev in the final, the player in the best form at this stage of the season: 6-3, 6-2 the score to Alcaraz, in an hour and 10 minutes without history. Alcaraz thus regains the No. 1 in the ATP ranking by sliding Novak Djokovic, absent from Indian Wells because he was unable to enter the USA as he was not vaccinated against Covid.

Alcaraz, who won the third Masters 1000 of his career at the age of just 19, will now have to defend the victory obtained last year in Miami: the circuit moves to Florida for the second Masters 1000 of the season. In the whole tournament the Spaniard didn’t lose a single set, and suffered only partially in the semifinal against Jannik Sinner. In the women’s field, the victory went to the Kazakh Elena Rybakina, champion at Wimbledon last year, who beat the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka 7-6 6-4.
