After the three teams qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League, the League is forced to review the days in which the matches will be played in April

Three Italian teams in the quarter-finals of the Champions League. It hasn’t happened since the 2005-06 season, since the World Cup in Germany when our football reigned everywhere. In chronological order, Milan were the first to reach this prestigious milestone on 8 March with a 0-0 draw in London against Antonio Conte’s Tottenham, 11 years after the last time. Then it was Inter’s turn who withstood the onslaught of Porto on Tuesday 14 March and, drawing 0-0 after a 1-0 draw at San Siro, reached the Diavolo in the quarter-finals after 12 years (some dream of a Euroderby as in 2003 and 2005, both finished with the Rossoneri ahead). Finally, Naples. Luciano Spalletti’s team, which is approaching the third Scudetto in its history, eliminated Eintracht Frankfurt and qualified for the quarterfinals of the top continental competition for the first time.

And now all this could significantly change the pre-Easter calendar of Serie A. In fact, the quarterfinals of the Champions League two will be played on Tuesday 11 April and two on Wednesday 12. The draw on Friday 17 March, in Nyon, will define the pairings and the European calendar. Only then will we understand better when Milan, Inter and Napoli take the field in both the first leg and the second leg (Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19). Lecce-Napoli set for Saturday 8 at 12.30 and Milan-Empoli (same day at 16.30) will certainly be brought forward and will be staged on Friday. It may be the same fate as Salernitana-Inter (Saturday 8 at 14.30). However, if the Champions League quarter-final match were on Wednesday the 12th, there would be a little doubt. The reason? Simone Inzaghi’s team will be involved in Turin in the semi-final first leg of the Coppa Italia on Tuesday 4 April, but it is almost certain that Inter will also ask for an advance. Arriving yes at Arechi with three days of rest after the match at the Allianz Stadium, but in Europe it will be cooler.
