Sandrine Dixson-Declève, the sustainability scholar

Sandrine Dixson-Declève is a European and international leader on the subject of complex systems including climate, energy, sustainable development and sustainable finance. She currently she is co-president of the Club of Rome together with Mamphela Ramphele, the first women to lead the organization in its history. Sandrine divides her time between lecturing, moderating, speaking and consulting work. In her recent TED Talk she talks about what we’ve learned in the 50 years since the publication of the Limits to Growth report and discusses the launch of Earth4All: an initiative to focus on five key areas that could allow humanity and the planet to thrive for a long time.

Currently chairs the group of experts of the European Commission on the economic and social impact of research and innovation (ESIR) and is part of the European Commission’s Sustainable Finance Platform. She also sits on several Boards and Advisory Committees including EDP, BMW, UCB, Climate KIC, UCL Bartlett School of Environment Energy & Resources, IEEP, Laudes Foundation and is a Senior Associate and faculty member of the Sustainability Leadership Institute of the University of Cambridge (Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership – CISL). Furthermore, is an ambassador for the Energy Transition Commission (ETC) and the Well Being Alliance (WeAll).

In 2017 Sandrine co-founded the Women Enablers Change Agent Network (WECAN). Sandrine recently posted That world for tomorrow with Lucpire Editions and has been recognized by GreenBiz as one of the 30 most influential women worldwide leading the transition to a low-carbon economy (low carbon economy) and promote a green way of doing business. Sandrine has spent her career working with business leaders, policy makers, academia and NGOs to solve humanity’s complex challenges.

Sandrine has also served on the European Commission’s Sustainable Finance Taxonomy Expert Group, Assembly Member on Climate Mitigation and Adaptation Mission. She was Chief Partnership Officer for UNSEforAll and director of the Prince of Wales’ Group of Climate Leaders and the CISL European Office. During her 33-year career she has advised HRH the Prince of Wales, Members of the European Parliament, President of the European Commission, Commissioners and Officials, Governments in Asia, Africa and the Middle East, International Organizations (OPEC, ADB, OECD, UNEP, USAID, UNFCCC, IEA) and entrepreneurs of large international, European and African companies.

Sandrine also served as Vice President of the European Biofuels Technology Platform from 2008 to 2016, We Mean Business Board Member from 2014 to 2016, and a member of the Sasol Oil and Gas Industry Sustainability Advisory Board from 2007 to 2010. Sandrine Dixson -Declève majored with honors at the University of Brussels (Université Libre de Bruxelles) in Environmental Sciences after graduating with honors in International Relations and French at the University of California Davisa in the United States.

At the University of Brussels he also followed courses in law and economics of European integration at the Institute of European Studies. Subsequently Sandrine began her working career as an intern and then as an external expert for the Foreign Affairs Directorate of the European Commission on Generalized System of Preferences and trade assistance to developing countries in the ASEAN and Latin America regions. During her time at Cambridge University as director for the European office of the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership she raised and managed funds for all international operations of the European Union, directing all policies and actions related to climate and sustainability and conducting activities with international institutions including the United Nations, UNEP, World Bank, UNFCCC.

Led an initiative with 16 EU ministers on innovative exchanges and negotiations between ministers, MEPs, businessmen, international organizations and European economists to find concrete ways to promote the development of a low-carbon market, with more jobs of jobs, growth and competitiveness for all of Europe. From 1998 to 2009 Sandrine served as Executive Director of Hart Energy Consulting’s International Sustainable Energy Exchange (ISEE), focusing on all possible sustainable and clean energy solutions to achieve climate change and sustainability goals.
