The draw for Roland Garros, the second Grand Slam of the season which starts next Sunday, has been drawn in Paris. Jannik Sinner, greatly disappointed by the Italian expedition to Rome, is seeking redemption and at least seven other Azzurri will compete with him in the men’s category: Lorenzo Musetti, Lorenzo Sonego, Marco Cecchinato, Fabio Fognini, Matteo Arnaldi, plus Giulio Zeppieri and Andrea Vavassori who they qualified today by beating respectively the Portuguese Ferreira Silva (6-4 6-1), and the Chilean Tabilo (6-4 6-4), and awaiting the outcome of Flavio Cobolli’s match who could join the ranks tomorrow.
Sinner happened in the lower half of the draw, like Holger Rune, thus avoiding the theoretical clash before the final with both Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, number 3 and 1 in the world who both happened in the upper half. However, he will eventually have to contend in the quarterfinals with Daniil Medvedev, world number 2 and fresh winner of Rome, who beat him six times out of six (five on indoor hard courts, once on outdoor hard courts). Sinner will make his debut with the Frenchman Alexandre Muller (n.100) then, always on paper, he would have Zverev (22) or Tiafoe (12) in the eighth place and world number 4 Casper Ruud in the semifinals. Last year, we recall, Sinner in Paris was forced to retire in the second round against Rublev.
The other first rounds of the Azzurri: Musetti, n.18 Atp, caught Mikael Ymer (53) in the upper part, Arnaldi got Galan, while Fognini suffered a prohibitive (theoretically) crossing with the top seed number 10, Felix Auger-Aliassime. Marco Cecchinato, drawn in Djokovic’s quarter, finds the young Frenchman Van Assche, Sonego is opposed to the tough American Ben Shelton, seeded number 30.
In the women’s category, the draw was decidedly bitter for the five blue women involved: Elisabetta Cocciaretto is opposed to the debut Wimbledon double champion, Petra Kvitova, Jasmine Paolini will find the Romanian Cirstea, Lucia Bronzetti the number 7 seed Ons Jabeur.
In the bottom half, Sara Errani, finalist in Paris in 2012, faces the Swiss Teichman, Camila Gorgi the French veteran Alize Cornet. Martina Trevisan, semifinalist last year at the Bois de Boulogne, will immediately see the returning Elina Svitolina.

The Paris tournament is broadcast exclusively on Eurosport 1 and Eurosport 2 (channels 210 and 211 on Sky), which complete the coverage with Eurosport Player and Discovery+. Live every day from 11am with the most important matches on Eurosport 1, those of the Italians on Eurosport 2, and the complete live broadcast on Discovery+.
