President Mattarella celebrates Alessandro Manzoni: a crown is placed at the Famedio del Monumentale


Sergio Mattarella has arrived at the Monumental Cemetery. The President of the Republic, in Milan to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the death of Alessandro Manzoni, entered the Famedio, the temple of illustrious Milanese, to place, together with the cuirassiers, a wreath of flowers on the writer's funeral monument, which stands out under the dome.

Present were the governor Lombardo Attilio Fontana, the mayor Beppe Sala and the deputy mayor Anna Scavuzzo, the prefect Renato Saccone, the city councilor for Culture Tommaso Sacchi, the councilor for Civic Services Gaia Romani and the president of the hall of Palazzo Marino Elena Buscemi .

The President went around the Famedio and stopped under the inscriptions of the other deserving ones, indicated and told by the commissioner Sacchi. Then, before leaving, he passed in front of the tomb of Carla Fracci, the first woman buried in the Famedio.

In the afternoon Mattarella will be at Casa Manzoni, the residence in via Morone 1 where Don Lisander has lived since 1813, for the second institutional stage of the celebrations. The Civic Wind Orchestra will perform the national anthem in the courtyard. In the Sala Rossa, where the writer spent his time with his family and friends and where there will also be a representation of male and female students from the two city schools named after him, institutional greetings will be held by the mayor of Milan Beppe Sala, the president of the Lombardy Region Attilio Fontana and the president of Casa Manzoni Angelo Stella. There will also be an oration by Professor Giovanni Bazoli and a reading by the actress Eleonora Giovanardi.
