The investee company enters the food and wine e-commerce market, the value of which has tripled in the last four years. The new service is already available in large cities but will soon be extended to the main capitals

For the past four years the value of food and wine purchases through ecommerce has tripled, by exploding the market of apps and sites that deliver groceries at home. The trend was consolidated during the pandemic, with the country in lockdown. But after experiencing the novelty, many have continued to prefer online orders. So also Poste Italiane has decided to enter the market by launching an express courier service for fresh food products.

The operational arm of the project will be entrusted to the subsidiary MLK Deliveries, which will work in partnership with Mazzocco srl, a company of the Italtrans logistics systems group. On the one hand MLK will use its technology, sorting the reservations, on the other Mazzocco will make the cold logistics platform available through its refrigerated vehicles for last mile deliveries.

Today it is already possible to use the service in Rome, Milan, Turin, Bologna and Florence but soon, a press release informs, it will be extended to all the main capitals. Flexibility is the basis of the service: the choice of delivery time will be accompanied by the possibility of selecting a collection point and any variation can be reported up to half an hour before.

On the other hand, this is what users are looking for, as confirmed by various studies. According to the sector magazine Startup Magazine, seven out of ten Italians rely on the various online shopping applications to buy groceries to be delivered directly to their homes, especially via smartphone. A market that is estimated to be growing and in which Poste Italiane has decided to invest as of today, challenging the delivery apps that have revolutionized the way in which all basic necessities are purchased in recent years.
